Understanding the link between clouds and their environment

Our group examines the links between local environmental conditions (including thermodynamics, dynamics, and aerosol) and cloud properties. Understanding these links is critical to understanding how clouds and storms will respond to changing climates and to increasing global industrialization.

Examining Cloud Properties

We investigate what is inside of clouds—their microphysics and dynamics and the links between them.

Studying Cloud Outflows

We study what comes out of clouds: the cold pools and outflow boundaries produced. These outflows are critical to understanding how storms affect our environment and land surface and how new storms are initiated.
